A South African 3-year old kid shot himself to death last week after failing to find the sweets his father had bought from the store the previous week.
According to South Africa’s Daily Sun, the unfortunate incident occurred on Monday morning, three days after Syavuya Mthi’s father Vuyani Mthi came home from the store bearing sweets and cakes.
‘Whenever I brought sweets and cakes home for him, I made sure he didn’t eat them all because he would become hyperactive. I would hide the remaining sweets,’ the 43-year old grieving dad said. ‘But my son was a clever boy. He would look everywhere until he found what he was looking for.’
On Friday, Vuyani bought sweets and cakes, gave Syavuya some and hid the rest in his bedroom as usual. Then on Monday morning, he rose up and went shopping … only to be told while he was still away that his son is dead.
On rushing home, Vuyani saw his son lying in the pool of his own blood on his bed. His mother was in the kitchen preparing breakfast at that time.
‘I found my son on my bed lying in a pool of blood,’ Vuyani said. ‘It was clear he had jumped onto the bed and opened the headboard cupboard door and found the gun. I’m so sad. I didn’t know bringing sweets home was going to cause such pain.’
Vuyani believes his son did not mean to kill himself. ‘We believe he thought it was a toy gun,’ he said. ‘It seems he put the barrel of the gun in his mouth and pulled the trigger.’
The police are currently investigating.
