A Japanese woman who could have easily prevented a fire from burning down her house allowed it to burn it down anyway because she found the flames too ‘pretty’ to put out.
The result? Four people, including her own mother, perished in the totally preventable disaster.
According to local reports, the 36-year old woman, who lives with her 70-year old mother and 2 daughters in the first floor of an apartment building in Kagoshima city, was the first to notice the small fire and instead of putting it out, she sat down and admired the beauty of the spreading flames.
It was not until her daughters started screaming that she was startled out of her trance … and as they escaped, she and her daughters tried to awaken her mother, to no avail. So they left her inside the burning apartment, and she died.
The other three victims were females who lived in the building, and the youngest was just 15 years old.
Police have arrested the woman for failing to act, after she confessed that she could have easily put out the fire had it been that she didn’t find the flames too pretty.
