Hope Solo has been suspended from the USA women’s football team days after her husband was arrested for DUI … because she let him drive the team’s van.
On Monday morning, Solo’s husband and ex NFL player Jerramy Stevens was stopped by cops in Manhattan Beach, California for driving haphazardly and as he was arrested, Solo reportedly started acting ‘belligerent’ and was such ‘a major pain’ that cops almost arrested her for disorderly conduct. But the cops restrained themselves and escorted her into a hotel before arresting her husband.
On Wednesday, the US football team released a statement announcing her suspension from the team. ‘During our current national team camp, Hope made a poor decision that has resulted in a negative impact on U.S. Soccer and her teammates. We feel at this time it is best for her to step away from the team,’ the statement said.
TMZ reports that the main reason the goalkeeper was suspended was not because her husband was busted for DUI, but because she let him drive the team’s van while drunk, which would have made them liable had there been an accident.
Reacting to her suspension, Solo released a statement on Facebook, saying, ‘I accept and respect the Federation’s decision, and more importantly, I apologize for disappointing my teammates, coaches and the Federation who have always supported me. I think it’s best for me to take a break, decompress from the stress of the last several months, and come back mentally and physically ready to positively contribute to the team.’
