Two teens in India were subjected to horrendous torture – which involved them being forced to eat human excreta – after they were accused of practicing witchcraft.
According to local reports, residents of Olopur village gathered on Monday to pass judgement on eight people, who had been accused by one dying teenage girl of witchcraft. After the girl died on Sunday, the villagers stormed the houses of the accused, dragged them out, and took them to the village temple.
There, the local court ordered that their heads be shaved after they were formally found guilty of witchcraft even though they denied the charges. After their heads were shaved, the villagers then proceeded to torture them, pulling out their teeth and forcing them to eat human excreta.
The victims are 70-year-old Mohan Sahu, 48-year-old Dandapani Behera, 35-year-old Kartik Behera, 28-year-old Keuta Behera, 23-year-old Subash Behera, 20-year-old Sushma Behera, 19-year-old Jhunu Behera, and 18-year-old Amar Behera. After the torture, the villagers warned them not to leave Olopur, but they escaped Monday night and reported the case to police the following day.
Three people, Ramchandra Behera, Prashant Nayak, and Tareni Nayak – have been arrested in connection with the assault.
