William Shatner – the actor best known for playing Captain Kirk in Star Trek – has announced that he cannot attend the funeral of his longtime friend Leonard Nimoy, who passed away on Friday.
Shatner says he’s in Florida for a Red Cross Ball – a charity event that he planned prior to Mr Spock’s death – and he cannot reschedule the event to attend his friend’s funeral on Sunday.
‘I am currently in FL as I agreed to appear at the Red Cross Ball tonight. Leonard’s funeral is tomorrow. I can’t make it back in time,’ Shatner tweeted on Saturday. ‘I feel really awful. Here I am doing charity work and one of my dearest friends is being buried.’
He then said he and his pals with him will create time to celebrate Nimoy’s life on Sunday … and asked his fans to do the same also.
