A 22-year old student in Taiwan burnt himself to death shortly after he had an argument with his father over his gaming habit.
According to local reports, Xe Jun-Chen was told by his father to stop his online gaming and get some sleep … but that instruction triggered an argument that later expanded its scope to his gaming habit in general.
Around midnight, Xe left the house and went to his family’s petrol reserves (they live in mountains where access to petrol is difficult – hence the reserves) … where he lit up and set himself ablaze. His charred remains was discovered the next morning.
News of Xe’s suicide was greeted with shock by his father, friends and teachers. He was described as an excellent student who was always early to class and had a smile on his face. His dad said his son recently came home for the winter break, but he rarely sleeps or goes out. Instead he plays games all day and all night.
The dad said he never expected his son, who never had depression problems, to kill himself over a petty argument.
