Two teens in Missouri stole their grandfather’s ashes and tasted it thinking it was cocaine … so says the victim of the robbery.
Deborah Matthews said that the kids, led by one David Gessell, stormed into her home in St. Peter’s, stealing various items including what they thought was cocaine. But after tasting the powder and realizing what it is, they proceeded to scatter the ashes on the highway instead of bring it back.
‘I just couldn’t believe that they would take the ashes,’ said Matthews, according to KMOV. ‘But you know, they were kids and I guess just stupid.’
Gessell and the kids have since been arrested by St Peter’s police and now Gessell faces burglary and theft charges.
‘I’m very upset because of the minors. I mean [they] were his grandsons,’ Matthews said. ‘They did that to their grandfather. They didn’t even realize it was their grandfather’s ashes.’
