Popular Mexican wrestling star El Hijo Del Perro Aguayo died while in action in a live wrestling event in Tijuana Friday night.
The 35-year old wrestler was in a tag team match against former WWE superstar Rey Mysterio Jr. when the accident happened. After Mysterio drop-kicked him to the ropes in preparation for his signature ‘619’ move, Aguayo bizarrely slumped on the ropes and became unresponsive.
The match briefly continued for sometime, but then quickly ended after Mysterio walked over to the fallen Aguayo and noticed that something was seriously wrong. He was stretchered off the ring and rushed to the hospital … but was pronounced dead a short time later.
According to several reports, it is believed that Aguayo suffered either a neck or spinal trauma when he hit the ropes.
On Saturday, Mysterio took to his Twitter page to pay his respects to the fallen star, writing, ‘… miss you and I will take [you] with me the rest of my life, rest in peace HijoDelPerro.’
Side note: Given the gravity of this issue, ENTmania! will not post the video of the ill-fated match here out of respect for the deceased.
