Taraji P. Henson has apologized to the cop she accused of racially profiling her 20-year old son Marcel Johnson after dash cam footage of the encounter showed nothing of the sort ever taking place.
The Empire star had claimed in a recent interview that her son was racially profiled during a police traffic stop. ‘My child has been racially profiled,’ she told Uptown. ‘He was in Glendale, California and did exactly everything the cops told him to do, including letting them illegally search his car. It was bogus because they didn’t give him the ticket for what he was pulled over for.’
Henson also claimed that her son was also racially profiled at the University of Southern California, declaring that for that reason she will enroll her son in Howard University instead so that she could sleep well at night knowing that he will never be racially profiled.
Responding to the accusation, the Glandale PD released a dash cam footage of the traffic stop, which shows the officer stopping Johnson for failing to yield at a cross walk, politely asking him if he had any illegal stuff in the vehicle, and Johnson admitting that he had marijuana … which gives the cop the legal right to search the car. The cop was even lenient … letting him go unpunished for the traffic violation, and for possession of controlled prescription drug Ritalin without a prescription.
Hours after the video was published on TMZ, Henson tendered a public apology, saying,
‘I would like to publicly apologize to the officer and the Glendale Police Department.
A mother’s job is not easy and neither is a police officer’s. Sometimes as humans WE overreact without gathering all of the facts. As a mother in this case I overreacted and for that I apologize.
Thank you to that officer for being kind to my son.’
