An elderly man was killed on Monday by the headstone of his mother-in-law while decorating it for Easter, it has been reported.
According to police in Throop, Pennsylvania, 74-year old man Stephen Woytack and his wife of 46 years Lucy were decorating the stone in St Joseph’s Cemetery when it suddenly fell on his head, killing him on the spot.
A worker at the cemetery told local media that the soil in the cemetery is moist, which makes the headstones not strongly rooted to the ground. The deceased and his wife, who frequently visit the grave site, had only recently moved the headstone to the location where it tragically fell.
Paramedics were called to the scene to remove the body.
