Chris Wallace has apologized for making an offensive remark about Kelly Clarkson’s weight during a recent radio show appearance.
The FOX News Sunday host had appeared on The Mike Gallagher Show on Friday where he said of Clarkson: ‘She could stay off the deep dish pizza for a little while’ while replying to Gallagher’s observation that the singer has ‘blown up.’ This comment landed him under fire in the social media, despite the fact that he earlier defended the singer in the radio show.
On Sunday, Wallace released a statement through his rep, saying, ‘I sincerely apologize to Kelly Clarkson for my offensive comment. I admire her remarkable talent and that should have been the focus of any discussion about her.’
Gallagher, on his own part, also apologized on his blog Saturday, writing, ‘Tubby Mike is the last person in the world who should bring up anyone’s weight. I couldn’t possibly feel any worse than I do for making an observation that led to the conclusion that I “fat-shamed” this talented and classy entertainer. It was a really stupid thing for me to do.’
