Dihan Awalidan (above), a 7-year old boy from West Java, Indonesia, has been smoking heavily since he was three years old … and the most shocking part is the fact that it is the norm among his peers in the village.
According to local reports, his friends Nawan, 11, Jujun, 7 and Dede, 8 also smoke cigarettes as often as 16 times a day. The effects are already evident: His lips have blackened and he goes into crying fits if he can’t get his hands on them cigarettes.
Dihan reportedly feeds his dangerous habit by using his pocket money for school and occasionally stealing coins from his mother, 32-year old Tati.
And of course, his parents are not happy.
‘If he was not given cigarette money he would get angry or steal cigarettes,’ said his 36-year old Iyan. His mother also said, ‘If Dihan doesn’t smoke he cries. Now he smokes secretly, not openly as he used to.’
Dihan has reportedly promised to cut down on his smoking habits, although he has refused to quit completely.
