A suspected Islamist terrorist who was preparing to open fire on churches in Paris during Sunday services ended up shooting himself … and getting arrested.
According to The Local, the unnamed man was found by cops lying on the street after he called for help, reporting that he had been attacked by an armed robber. However, the responding officers arrested him on the scene after following the blood trail to his car and discovering loaded guns and a list of church targets, as well as ‘Islamist extremist material.’
A search of his accommodation also revealed more weapons, bullet-proof vests, and a map of police stations in the area.
‘Documents were also found and they prove, without any ambiguity, that the individual was preparing an imminent attack, in all probability, against one or two churches,’ French Interior Minister Bernard Cazeneuve told the AP on Wednesday.
The suspect, AP reports, is a 24-year old Algerian computer science student, who has lived in France ‘for several years.’ He had been put under close surveillance since last year after intelligence agencies discovered that he was making inquiries about going to Syria.
