Joni Mitchell is in bad health but NOT in coma as several reports claim, her reps have said.
On Tuesday, it was reported that the 71-year old singer had become unresponsive and is now in the ICU of UCLA Medical Center.
Legal documents filed by her close friend Leslie Morris and obtained by both TMZ and AP claim that Mitchell is currently ‘unconscious and unable to make any responses, and therefore is unable to provide for any of her personal needs.’ Morris filed the docs to obtain conservatorship over the singer, saying that Mitchell told her that she did not have any close relatives to assume the role.
But in a statement posted on her website on Tuesday evening, Joni’s reps denied the reports that she was in coma:
Contrary to rumors circulating on the Internet today, Joni is not in a coma. Joni is still in the hospital – but she comprehends, she’s alert, and she has her full senses. A full recovery is expected. The document obtained by a certain media outlet simply gives her longtime friend Leslie Morris the authority – in the absence of 24-hour doctor care – to make care decisions for Joni once she leaves the hospital. As we all know, Joni is a strong-willed woman and is nowhere near giving up the fight. Please continue to keep Joni in your thoughts. Joni was first hospitalized on March 31 after being found unconscious in her Los Angeles home. ENTmania! wishes her a full recovery.
