Kate Middleton and Prince William have named their newborn daughter Charlotte Elizabeth Diana.
The official announcement was made on Monday in a formal release and on Twitter shortly after the baby was taken to the palace to meet Queen Elizabeth II.
‘The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge are delighted to announce that they have named their daughter Charlotte Elizabeth Diana,’ the statement read. ‘The baby will be known as Her Royal Highness Princess Charlotte of Cambridge.’
It is believed that the baby was named Charlotte is in honor of grandpa Prince Charles, Elizabeth after great grandma Queen Elizabeth II, and Diana after her grandmother, the late Princess Diana.
Princess Charlotte was born at 8:32 am GMT Saturday morning, weighing a healthy 8 lbs 3 oz.
