American Idol – one of the biggest reality TV series of modern TV era – has been cancelled.
The announcement was made by the show’s producers FOX on Monday. According to the network, the final season will pay tribute to the show’s years. Present judges Keith Urban, Jennifer Lopez, Harry Connick Jr. will return to see off the show, as well as host Ryan Seacrest.
American Idol – once dubbed FOX’s ‘Death Star’ for the way it decimated its competitors on the ratings scale – launched the music careers of big names like Kelly Clarkson, Carrie Underwood, Jordin Sparks, Jennifer Hudson among others. But after its peak popularity in 2006, the show’s ratings steadily declined. It has not also produced any successful music star since then.
American Idol’s final season will air next year.
