Scott Stapp says he has bipolar disorder … and that was the reason behind the weird, utterly confusing meltdown he had last year.
As ENTmania! reported, the former Creed frontman posted a video on Facebook claiming that he was homeless, penniless and ‘under … vicious attack’ by his wife Jaclyn, who allegedly conspired with his music partners to steal millions of money from him. He further claimed that when he found out, the music guys plotted to kill him, prompting him to flee on his truck.
Shortly after that, audio of 911 calls emerged, in which you can hear his wife saying that Scott thought he was a CIA agent on a mission to kill President Obama. It also emerged that he was placed on a 5150 psychiatric hold … and finally, he lost custody of his three kids.
Now in an interview with People, Stapp explains that he was experiencing a drug and booze-triggered psychotic exacerbation:
I had a psychotic break that was brought on by alcohol and drug abuse. I was hallucinating. I drove around the United States for a month, following an angel that I saw on the hood of my car.
In my delusional thinking, I thought my family was involved in ISIS, and that millions of dollars had been taken from me to support terrorism. All of it was nonsense. I was out of my mind.
Scott later signed up for an intensive program at a dual diagnostic facility … and he was ‘shocked’ when he was told that he had been struggling with bipolar disorder all along. He is now undergoing an intensive 12-step therapy for the disorder and meets a sponsor.
‘It made sense,’ his wife Jaclyn tells the magazine. ‘I definitely knew there was something going on for years, but I couldn’t pinpoint what it was.’
