Melissa Rivers is not happy with the way Kathy Griffin quit Fashion Police more than a month ago … and she made it very clear during a recent interview.
Joan Rivers’ only daughter was promoting her new book The Book of Joan: Tales of Mirth, Mischief, and Manipulation at the 92nd Street Y on Wednesday, when host Hoda Kotb raised the issue of how Fashion Police imploded after her mother’s death.
As ENTmania! reported at that time, Griffin was appointed to replace Joan, but she quit after just seven appearances because of the backlash that followed Giuliana Rancic’s comments on Zendaya’s dreadlocks at the Oscars and the actress’ reaction. Co-host Kelly Osbourne also quit the show for the same reason.
‘They [Kathy, Kelly and Zendaya] took the last thing I had and smashed it,’ said Melissa. ‘I felt like I was Humpty Dumpty, and I felt like I was on my knees gluing it back together or at least trying to find the pieces.’
But her anger was mostly directed at Griffin, who said in her statement that the jokes cracked at Fashion Police ‘does not fit’ her style.
‘My biggest complaint was the feeling that she kind of sh*t all over my mother’s legacy in her statement on leaving,’ Melissa said. ‘I know that was not an intentional reading of it, but that’s how I felt… calling the comedy and the style of it old-fashioned. It was like, I understand what you were doing, you’re trying to save yourself, but don’t crap all over my mother to do it.’
Kathy refused to comment on Melissa’s charge when asked by TMZ photographers about it.
