Janet Jackson is ready to return to music after almost seven years of absence, it was announced on Saturday.
The singer made the announcement by posting a video on Twitter at around midnight, apparently as part of her 49th birthday celebration.
‘I promised you’d hear it from my lips, and now you will,’ she says in the video, referring to a time last year when she dismissed a rumor about a new album by saying, ‘If there is a new project, you’ll hear it from my lips.’ ‘This year: new music, new world tour, a new movement. I’ve been listening, let’s keep the conversation going,’ she adds.
Janet Jackson hasn’t released any album since 2008’s Discipline, and has remained out of the spotlight since 2013, when she announced that she’s married to Arab billionaire Wissam Al Mana. As recently as last month, her fans started a Twitter campaign begging her to return to music.
Now their wish is granted.
