Kanye West’s closing performance at Sunday’s Billboard Music Awards was heavily bleeped due to the profane words he was emitting from his mouth … and the rapper is not happy about it.
On Tuesday, West released a statement through his rep, blasting the awards show for being too eager to hit the red button on his performance, bleeping out some of his clean lyrics in the process.
‘“Kanye West was grossly over-censored at the Billboard Music Awards,’ said his rep. ‘Non-profane lyrics such as “with my leather black jeans on” were muted for over 30 second intervals. As a result, his voice and performance were seriously misrepresented.’
The statement continued, ‘It is ridiculous that in 2015, unwarranted censorship is something that artists still have to fight against. Although West was clearly set up to face elements beyond his control during the live broadcast, he would like to apologize to the television audience who were unable to enjoy the performance the way he envisioned.’
As a result of the excessive bleeping, West could hardly be heard during his performance of Black Skinhead and All Day ... and to worsen things, the extensive stage lighting and smoke effects practically rendered him invisible to those watching at home. Kanye blames that one too on the show’s production.
