A restaurant in Jinan, China ran a special promotion last week in which women got huge discounts for wearing short skirts.
According to multiple reports from local media, the ladies’ skirts were measured with a tape as they walked into the restaurant to eat … and the higher the skirt is above the knee, the bigger the discount.
The highest recorded length was 13 inches above the knee … and the lady wearing that got a 90% discount. The lowest length, 3 inches, got a 20% discount. (The official rule says 8 inches and below gets the 20% discount.)
Eason Yang, founder of the Yang Jia Hot Pot restaurant where the promo took place, said the move was important because they are experiencing a ‘low season’ and that he wanted to attract more people to his restaurant with the scantily-clad girls eating inside.
‘We wanted to start a promotional campaign that could attract our core audience,’ he said. ‘Our restaurant has opened for five months. We have one special promotion every month. We wanted these promotions to bring good sales to us.’
And a success indeed it was. in fact, last week’s promo was so successful that the restaurant plans to do it again this weekend.
Yang Jia Hot Pot is not the only restaurant in China embarking on bizarre promos to increase sales. A rival hot-pot restaurant in Zhengzhou in January hired a panel of workers from a plastic surgery clinic to judge people’s appearances … and whoever was called beautiful by them got a free meal.
And another restaurant in Chongqing rewards overweight men with huge discounts, but for the women, it was the opposite – women weighing less than 76 lbs got the huge discounts.
