Fox News has filed an official response to Lindsay Lohan, who earlier this year sued them for defamation because they called her an addict on TV … and they are not backing down one bit.
As ENTmania! reported, Lohan sued the network over a comment made on Hannity by guest Michelle Fields a year earlier. In that February 2014 show, which aired two days after Hollywood heavyweight Philip Seymour-Hoffman died of heroin overdose, the discussion naturally moved to which celebrity will be the next to perish due to drugs. That was when Fields said, ‘Lindsay Lohan’s mom is doing cocaine with her.’
Lindsay described Field’s comment as ‘a blatantly false, malicious, defamatory and reckless statement’ and fired off a warning letter demanding that the network apologize and take down the blog post they wrote about the matter. The network claimed they obliged, but that did not prevent Lindsay from suing them anyway.
Now in its response, Fox News described Lindsay as an ‘admitted cocaine user and long-time addict’ – Lindsay herself called her dad back in 2012 and told him that her mom Dina was high on cocaine – and they can’t be held liable for a guest’s remarks. In addition, Fox claims they are protected by the First Amendment as a media house … and cannot be sued for commentary on their channel.
