A pregnant woman from Bristol, UK, has developed a weird addiction to eating soap.
26-year old Jess Gayford said that she one day decided to lick a bar of Dove soap … and now it is eight months into her pregnancy, and she hasn’t stopped eating soap.
‘It came out of nowhere. I wanted to lick a bar of Dove soap,’ she told Bristol Post. ‘I went to buy a bar and started licking it. It sounds disgusting but it’s really nice.’
Gayford consumes up to two bottles of liquid sanitizer and an unspecified number of bar soaps a week.
Her 31-year old partner, with whom she has a five-year old son, was initially worried that her strange addiction will harm their unborn daughter, until doctors assured them that the baby was safe.
Turns out that Gayford is displaying classic signs of pica, a rare condition in which sufferers crave for inedible stuff to eat as food. It mainly affects pregnant women and children.
