A 19-year old man in Logan, Utah was on Tuesday arrested after stealing a car he couldn’t drive, it has been reported.
According to Logan police, the owner of the car had left the keys in the car to go somewhere and when he returned and could not find his vehicle, he initially thought that his brother had played a prank on him.
‘So he and his girlfriend got in her car and were literally going to the brother’s house to see if he had taken it as a prank,’ police chief Gary Jensen said. ‘While they’re on the way to the brother’s house, they see the car being driven by someone they clearly don’t recognize and it’s at that point they realize this is actually an auto theft.’
The owner immediately called police, but in the meantime the person behind the wheel of the stolen car was struggling to drive it because he doesn’t know how to drive a manual transmission. After multiple attempts to drive the car failed, he and his juvenile female passenger abandoned it at a local grocery store and went to another convenience store to call a taxi.
Detectives accosted the duo as they waited for their ride … and they tried to bolt on foot. But again, that failed.
Now Alexander Katz has been charged with a second degree felony receiving or transferring a stolen vehicle, as well as failure to stop at the command of a law enforcement officer. His juvenile female passenger was also arrested and taken into custody.
