Iggy Azalea is blaming Britney Spears for the poor performance of their duet Pretty Girls.
In a Twitter question-and answer-session with fans, the 25-year old Australian rapper complained that the song – much hyped as a summer jam by the media – didn’t make the top of the charts because it wasn’t promoted enough … and from the way she put it, she seemed to put the blame squarely on Spears.
‘Its difficult to send a song up the charts without additional promo and tv performances etc. unfortunately im just featured…,’ she tweeted on Sunday. ‘I would have enjoyed performing it alot, i think it got off to a powerful start. but you need content to compete in 2015.’
Translation: Since she was just featured in the song, she had no right to perform it without the owner Spears. And it is a well-known fact that Spears rarely promotes her singles in TV performances and interviews these days because of psychological reasons.
When another fan pointed out that Azalea may have just dissed Spears, the rapper shot back on Monday, ‘my comment is factual, it applies to any song. I dont have to suck the womans a****** 24/7 to be her friend, do i? bye girls.’
Now that’s a diss.
Pretty Girls was released in May, and both ladies performed the song at the Billboard Music Awards. Since then, no other public performances of the song have taken place.
