A man in Orange County, Texas was killed moments after yelling ‘f**k the alligators’ and jumping into a river infested with the fearsome reptiles.
According to county official Rodney Price, Tommie Woodward ignored an alligator warning sign and an oral warning from people nearby not to swim in the private marina located on the Sabine River.
‘He removed his shirt, removed his billfold…someone shouted a warning and he said “blank the alligators” and jumped into the water and almost immediately yelled for help,’ said Price.
Marina employee Michelle Wright recalled how he warned Woodward – who had recently moved from St Louis to the area – not to swim there … and how she watched him get attacked by the alligators.
‘I saw his body floating face down,’ she told KFDM. ‘And then he’s out there for a couple of seconds and then he’s dragged back down. And then he come back up still face down and then he gets pulled down again. And then he just disappears.’
Marina owner Allen Burkhat added, ‘He went under one time, then he hollered at her to get out of the water. Then he pulled him down the second time and that was it. I’ve been here all my life and this is the first time something like this has happened. … I’m still in shock.’
Moral of this shocking story: Heed the warning signs.
