Macy’s is losing thousands of its customers because of its decision to dump Donald Trump over his comments about Mexican immigrants, it has been reported.
Two weeks ago, Macy’s had released a statement announcing that it is severing ties with the Republican presidential candidate because of his ‘disparaging characterization’ of Mexican immigrants. In response, Trump called for the boycott of the department store, blasting them for being weak and disclosing that his business with them was ‘small in terms of dollar volume’ and worth far less than his ‘principles.’
Now TMZ reports that Macy’s has since been ‘inundated with complaints’ from approximately 30,000 customers via Facebook, phone and email, who believe it was unfair to sack Trump over his views on immigration. Thousands more have vowed to stop patronizing the store, and most of them have reportedly cut up their Macy’s credit cards to show how serious they are.
Reacting to the TMZ story, Trump tweeted, ‘I am so happy that people are boycotting Macy’s.’ An older tweet he sent out on July 6 reads, ‘@Macys stock just dropped. Interesting. So many people calling to say they are cutting up their @Macys credit card. Thank you!’
Trump is currently leading the polls among Republicans seeking the presidency.
