Jimmy Fallon explained in detail how he almost lost his finger after slipping at home and how what he thought was a simple finger injury turned out to be a serious trauma that required major surgery and a 10-day stay in the ICU.
As ENTmania! reported, Fallon was taken to the hospital on June 24 after falling in his Manhattan home. Back then, he explained on Twitter that his wedding ring got caught on the side of the table during the fall .. and it ‘almost ripped my hand off.’
During Monday night’s The Tonight Show, the comedian said that the situation was even worse than was earlier thought. ‘My ring got caught on the counter top… and pulled my finger off,’ he explained, after revealing that he suffered a ‘ring avulsion’ – a type of laceration wound characterized by severe damage of finger tissue down to the bone as a result of sudden pulling force on a ring. ‘Apparently, the odds aren’t great and usually they just cut your finger off,’ he said concerning the avulsion.
The comedian further shared that he underwent a 6-hour operation which involved surgeons harvesting a vein in his foot to reconnect his severed finger … and it was successful. ‘I was in the ICU for 10 days,’ he said.
