Xena: Warrior Princess is returning to TV 15 years after its last season finale episode aired, it has been reported.According to The Hollywood Reporter, the famous TV series starring Lucy Lawless is scheduled to air on NBC during the 2016 television season. Original executive producers Rob Tapert (Lawless’ husband) and Sam Raimi are working with NBC and NBC Universal to find a writer for the project.
It is still unclear whether the reboot will be a full season or a miniseries since it is still at its ‘extremely early’ stage … and it is also unclear if Lawless will play Xena. But all indications point to the fact that Lawless will reprise the role that made her famous.
Lawless has made it clear that she wants the show to return. She told reporters at this year’s Comic Con:
‘I’ve been pitching that show … because … there’s a swell of interest still. I’m always being peppered with questions [about] when the Xena movie is coming. Guys, I’m pitching my ass off to make it happen, whether it’s with me or not. I think it’d be funny to have a reboot like [her new Starz show] Ash vs. Evil Dead — like middle-aged Xena in a muumuu with a bad attitude and a smoking habit. ….I don’t know what the hold-up is; it’s about who has got the rights. But that’s a piss-poor excuse anymore. Find who has got the rights, freakin’ pay it.’
