WWE Hall of Famer ‘Rowdy’ Roddy Piper has died. He was 61.
The wrestling legand died in his sleep on Thursday night at his home in Hollywood. His body was found the following morning.
Cardiac arrest is being reported as the cause of death. However, that will be confirmed after forensic investigations are concluded. He had a medical history of Hodgkin’s lymphoma.
Born George Roderick Toombs, Piper dominated the wrestling world in the ’80s … and is listed as one of the WWE Top 50 villains. He was inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame in 2005.
Many tributes from wrestling stars and fans have been pouring in ever since his death was announced this morning. WWE said in a statement, ‘WWE is deeply saddened that Roderick Toombs, aka “Rowdy” Roddy Piper – WWE Hall of Famer and Intercontinental Champion – passed away today at the age of 61. WWE extends its sincerest condolences to Toombs’ family, friends and fans.’
Piper is survived by his wife Kitty, daughters Anastacia, Ariel, and Falon, and son Colton, a wrestler. He also has a grandchild from Anastasia.
