A man armed with a gun, pepper spray and a hatchet has been killed after he opened fire inside a movie theater showing Mad Max: Fury Road.
According to police, the shooting took place Wednesday afternoon at the Carmike Hickory 8 Theatre located in Antioch, Tennessee, about 20 minutes drive from Nashville. The masked man was killed after he shot at one of the responding SWAT officers and he returned fire.
Police have identified the gunman as a 29-year old local. Three people were wounded by the pepper spray and the hatchet, although the injuries are not serious enough to require hospital. Apart from the shooter, no one else died.
Police also found a backpack the gunman left behind, which contained an explosive device. It has been detonated.
This incident comes just two weeks after a gunman opened fire on a Louisiana movie theater showing Trainwreck, killing six and wounding nine, before turning the gun on himself.
Update 06 August 2015:
The shooter has been identified by police as 29-year old Vincent Montano. He was carrying a fake gun, a fake bomb as well as the hatchet and pepper spray.
Police say Montano had ‘significant psychiatric or psychological issues.’
