Former US President Jimmy Carter has been diagnosed with cancer.
The 90-year old made the announcement in a statement released on Wednesday, where he revealed that the cancer was diagnosed during a scheduled surgery to remove a mass in his liver.
‘Recent liver surgery revealed that I have cancer that is now in other parts of my body,’ Carter said in the statement. ‘I will be rearranging my schedule as necessary so I can undergo treatment by physicians at Emory Healthcare. A more complete public statement will be made when facts are known, possibly next week.’
The Carter Center had earlier announced on August 3 that the former president underwent surgery to remove a ‘small mass in his liver,’ and that the prognosis ‘ is excellent for a full recovery.’
