An Indian boy born with three penises has undergone surgery to correct the extremely rare abnormality.
Doctors in Mumbai performed a six-hour operation on the two-year old boy, who could only urinate with one penis. He also had no anus, so a colostomy was performed so that he could defecate normally.
According to one of the surgeons Dr Paras Kothari, two of the appendages had erectile tissue, while the other was underdeveloped. Surgeons corrected the problem by joining the two functional penises with flesh and cutting out the underdeveloped one.
Doctors say the boy will be able to use his penis normally both for urination and reproduction, as his fertility is not affected.
The unnamed boy suffers from Diphallia (or in his case, Triphallia), a condition where one has more than one penis. Only 100 cases have been reported since the early 1600s.
