Bill Cosby has lost the honorary doctorate degree awarded to him by Fordham University in the wake of the rape allegations against him.
On Thursday, the university’s board of Trustees unanimously agreed to revoke the degree, which Cosby received in 2001. In a statement to students, the school said, ‘The University has taken this extraordinary step in light of Mr. Cosby’s now-public court depositions that confirm many of the allegations made against him.’
This now makes it the first time in the school history that a person has lost an honorary degree.
As ENTmania! has reported, more than 50 women have come forward with allegations of Cosby drugging and raping them on different occasions at the height of his fame in the ’70s and ’80s. He has never been charged with any crime, and has maintained his innocence.
