A video has surfaced online showing a scorned wife in China beating up her husband’s alleged lover on the streets in broad daylight.
In the video uploaded to Youku, China’s answer to YouTube, the furious wife can be seen pulling the alleged lover’s hair, slapping her around and cursing her entire family while passersby watched.
According to Shanghaiist, this is part of the verbal exchange taking place in the video:
Wife: “Why do you keep looking for my husband?”
Mistress: “I have no relationship with him.”
Wife: “Tell me! Tell me!”
Mistress: “Why don’t you get him out and ask him for yourself?”
Wife: “I’m not asking him. What text messages have you been sending him? Did you not know that we have kids? How old are you? Can’t you look for your own husband?”
[Passerby with a kid can be heard exclaiming “damn”]
Wife: “If you dare look for my husband, I’ll make sure your entire family dies… If you ever dare to be a mistress again, I’ll make sure you die… You’re so young and if you can’t find anything else better to do, go be a prostitute!”
Shanghaiist speculates that the scenario of scorned wives going after their husbands’ mistresses instead of confronting their husbands directly is becoming commonplace in China because of the fact that in Chinese law, property owned by someone cannot be divided with his/her spouse in the wake of a divorce. Most of the time, the husband is the sole home owner and so a wife gets nothing if she decides to get a divorce.
