A Tennessee man who was arrested for theft on Sunday after stealing his former boss’ truck and driving it into a creek says he did it because he wanted to go to jail in order to take a break from his wife.
In a jailhouse interview with a News 2 reporter, grinning Hayden Scott Vandiver of Giles County said that he hoped his wife was watching the interview, adding, ‘She is having a bad time right now. She knows I done this to get away from her.’
Asked why he decided to drive his former boss Michael Sloan’s 2012 Dodge 2500 truck 1.5 miles into a creek with the doors open until it broke down, the 51-year old said it was out of revenge for the way he was treated while still under Sloan’s employ more than a year ago.
‘I hate people who disrespect their employees and all they care about is whether they are going to work for them,’ he said.
Asked why he chose to drive into a creek of all places, he happily replied, ‘’Cause I like driving in a creek. Only thing I didn’t like was swimming out of it.’
He is now happily sitting in jail on charges of burglary, vandalism and drunk driving.
