Lamar Odom was found unconscious on Tuesday afternoon in his room at Dennis Hof’s Love Ranch, a brothel located in Pahrump, Nevada.
According to reports by TMZ and E! Online, the former NBA star has been partying alone (without any posse) at the brothel since Saturday with the women. It was one of the women who discovered him and alerted the manager, who then called 911.
In the 911 call, the brothel’s media director Richard Hunter told the dispatcher that Odom was foaming at the nose and mouth, and that he had been taking Reload – a banned libido-enhancing drug that contains Sildenafil, the active ingredient of Viagra.
Odom was rushed to Pahrump hospital, where he remains in a critical condition. Sources at the hospital say that doctors found cocaine in his system, and that his kidneys, lungs and heart are failing. He also suffered multiple strokes, which was caused by Reload overdose.
(FYI: Sildenafil, Reload’s active ingredient, is known to cause very low blood pressure, which is the main mechanism behind ischemic stroke. It is also known to drastically reduce blood flow to vital organs (including the brain), another important cause of ischemic stroke. Hence reports of Lamar suffering multiple strokes and his organs failing make sense.
Because of these adverse effects, any drug containing sildenafil is sold strictly under a doctor’s supervision, which means it is not used outside the hospital.
In 2013, the FDA issued a warning to the public against Reload – which does not list sildenafil at all on its label – saying, ‘Consumers should stop using this product immediately and throw it away.’)
According to TMZ, Lamar bought his Reload at the brothel and consumed up to 10 pills in 3 days. On the day he was found unconscious, he downed two-thirds of a cognac bottle.
Lamar’s soon-to-be ex-wife Khloe Kardashian is at his bedside and is making all the medical decisions. It is believed that their tumultuous relationship played the leading role in his downward spiral.
Other visitors to his bedside include Kris Jenner, Kim Kardashian and Kobe Bryant.
