A&E’s decision to indefinitely suspend Duck Dynasty star Phil Robertson for saying that homosexuality is a sin has sparked outrage on the internet.
Already, more than 63,000 fans have signed a Change.org petition demanding that the cable network should lift the ‘wrongful suspension’ of the well-known Christian preacher.
Weighing in on the issue, Sarah Palin wrote on her Facebook page, ‘Free speech is an endangered species. Those “intolerants” hatin’ and taking on the “Duck Dynasty” patriarch for voicing his personal opinion are taking on all of us.’
Rush Limbaugh also echoed Palin’s statement in his syndicated radio show, saying, ‘Who is being discriminated against here except Phil Robertson, who just lost a job because of his religious beliefs? He ends up getting fired and GLAAD starts running around talking about, “We’re not gonna put up with this kind of discrimination.” Well, then, you better start demanding he be rehired because he’s the only guy whose been discriminated against.’
Comedian and actor Seth Rogen also blasted A&E on Twitter, writing, ‘It’s strange that A&E hired a guy for being a backwoods redneck and then were surprised when he started talking like a backwoods redneck.’
Fans are currently bashing the cable network on social media, saying that it’s decision to suspend Phil was a blatant violation of his freedom of speech and a bad business move.
Meanwhile, Duck Dynasty sponsor Skyjacker Extensions has expressed support for Phil, telling TMZ, ‘We are a Christian- based company and actively share our faith so standing with Phil Robertson is an easy choice for us.’
His church, White Ferry Road Church, has also expressed love and support for him.
